The first career firefighters are now operating in Pulaski County.
They will work with volunteer firefighters from six companies across the county.
“We’re growing and learning every day. We’ve got a great paid staff in place right now, supplementing a great group of volunteers,” Fire Chief Brandon Hamblin told WFXR.
The extra coverage could improve emergency response time by up to 13 minutes.
“When [residents] need emergency services, they need them fast. Through a collaboration with the town of Dublin, we have housed our career staff here in the town of Dublin as a central location in an effort to enhance those response times county-wide.”
They are currently operating out of the Dublin Volunteer Fire Department, and they will likely remain there as it is centrally located.
With the prospect of pursuing a career in fire and rescue now a reality in Pulaski, Hamblin believes more individuals may be interested in getting a foot in the door on the volunteer side.
